Get To Know Loose Lips

Can you tell us how Loose Lips formed? What brought you all together?

Josh and I met in 2022 when our other bands (The Prize and The Chats) did a tour around Australia together and we became instant pals. Ethan and Josh also met when their bands were touring together in the UK and when Ethan moved to Melbourne a couple of years later, the stars aligned for Loose Lips one night at the Pub.

Your music blends elements from 60s rock, punk, and garage. Which artists or bands have had the most significant impact on your sound?

We have a shared love for groups like The Ronettes and The Shangri-Las. Also I think Johnny Thunders and The New York Dolls have played a big part for us.

What would you say makes a live show special?

I think when there's that undefinable electricity at a show. The band may not play a perfect, note for note set but if the energy is there and the audience feels connected I think that's what makes for a special show.

Who are some up-and-coming acts in Naarm/Melbourne that you're excited about right now?

Gnome are one of our favourite new bands. They are from Frankston and are doing some great 60s/70s rock’n’roll. We also love The States, Cammy Cautious and the Wrestlers, Split System and Egomaniacs.

What’s the best live show you’ve been to lately?

Probably Gnome and The Unknowns at Mount Hotham last weekend (The Unknowns is Josh’s other band but I can say that because i’m not in it :)

What band/artist would you love to see live that you haven't yet?

ALVILDA who are an incredible power pop/ punk band from France. I missed seeing them by one day when we played in London last year and I was devo!

What’s your go-to song or album when you want to listen to something you know you love?

The Ramones album Rocket to Russia never gets old for me.

The first album you ever bought?

It was actually given to me by my neighbour when I was maybe 8 or 9 but it was a single from the Grease soundtrack by Frankie Valli and also the Monster Mash single. I played them until they disintegrated.

What are your go-to venues to see live music in Naarm/Melbourne?

The Gem is a pretty regular haunt for us. I also love to see gigs at the Tote and the Town Hall Hotel in North Melbourne!

Where would you take a friend visiting Naarm/Melbourne for the first time? Any hidden gem spots: food, parks, shops etc. that you highly recommend?

The Town Hall is always a hit. I took Josh there when he first moved to Melbourne from Brisbane and he’s been sitting at that bar ever since.
