Drifting Clouds release debut single Bawuypawuy’

‘Bawuypawuy’ is the debut single from Buhungura, North East Arnhem Land man, Terry Guyula aka Drifting Clouds.

Sung in Liyawulma’mirr Djambarrpuyngu, a language of Yolngu peoples, Both the song and accompanying 16mm film video shot by Matt Sav (Tame Impala, Spacey Jane) were recorded on Larrakia land. The dream-like imagery beautifully reflects the nostalgic, psychedelic/electro funk and disco inspired sounds.

In the age of Kneecap and the revitalisation of the Irish Language especially in the eyes of young people and popular culture, here’s hoping that the emergence of artists like Drifting Clouds will bring about further celebration, use and the continued survival of First Nations languages in our own country.
