‘Poplife’ - a hyperpop collision from umru & underscores

Two of the very best pop producer/songwriters on one track — and it’s every bit as good as you’d expect.

Underscores’ unique vocal style is front and centre, with melodies that feel fresh but instantly recognisable. The production keeps shifting, seemingly never running out of ideas.

Visually, the music video is simple but effective, with pop-up ads highlighting fun moments like the “He’s the best producer I’ve ever worked with” sample. The single cover — with art direction by Hannah Diamond — perfectly backs up the vibe.

I was lucky enough to catch Underscores live in Brisbane/Meanjin on a stacked lineup alongside Sidney Phillips and Naaki Soul. Not only was she incredible, but her audience was one of the most open and embracing of support acts that I’ve seen in a long time.

Can’t wait for Underscores to be back in the country — and hopefully for more collaborations with Umru in the near future.
