Get to know Naarm/Melbourne act Lucky ahead of her Magandjin/Brisbane tour dates this week.

We’ve been fans since her debut single ‘never know’ dropped late last year. Since then, she’s shared stages with Hockey Dad, Dear Seattle, Belair Lip Bombs, Armlock and Jet City Sports Club.

We caught up with Chelsea to chat about who she’s excited to see play this week at BIGSOUND, the music that shaped her teen years and what inspires her outside of music.

For fans of Momma, beabadoobee and Dear Seattle.

Who are you excited to see play live at BIGSOUND?

I'm excited to see Coast Arcade!!

What are some of the best gigs you’ve been to lately?

I did a double whammy the other night - got to see Blue Diner, dogworld then Gush & Sleepazoid!

What would you say makes a live show special?

Small moments of connection and authenticity always make a show feel special and unique — like little mistakes or a fun standout moment with the crowd.

I think the most powerful part of any show is when you can truly feel some sort of shared energy — when everyone is excited to be there, and it turns into moments of connection through every powerful chorus, lyric or dance.

Could you share a photo dump from your recent tour with Jet City Sports Club?

What music did you grow up listening to?

I had all the pop rock queens on repeat - Pink, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry etc

What band poster did you have on your wall as a teen?

Pretty sure I had the same Pink – I’m Not Dead poster from when I was a kid right up until I moved out lol.

Outside of music, what else inspires you creatively, books, films, art etc.?

I love film and video!! I find myself most inspired when audio and visuals come together. I often know a song is working if I can visualise its tone through a music video or some kind of visual content to pair with it. Being in nature also keeps me grounded and inspired — heading home to the country for a reset always helps me stay motivated and connected.

Who are some up-and-coming acts from Naarm/Melbourne that you're excited about right now?

dogworld’ are pretty cool! I’m also keen for more ‘Local The Neighbour’ music!

Where would you take a friend visiting Naarm/Melbourne for the first time? Any hidden gem spots-food, parks, shops etc. that you think more people should know about?

For some arvo sun, I’d recommend Edinburgh Gardens! And for a fun, cute drink, head to Rooks Return — especially on a Thursday for some live honky-tonk. But tbh I would also love to know some peoples answers for this - I want to expand my list!

Is there anything else you want the world to know about lucky?

My new song explores the restless energy that comes with trying to break out of your comfort zone. It's called Lady Beetle and everyone should check it out :)
