Iceage return with their new single “Star” via Mexican Summer, alongside a video directed by Thinh T. Petrus Nguyen. It’s the Danish quintet’s first new music since their 2021 album Seek Shelter. Across 18 years and five albums, the band, Elias Rønnenfelt, Johan Suurballe Wieth, Dan Kjær Nielsen, Casper Morilla Fernandez, and Jakob Tvilling Pless, have continually evolved while circling a central idea of collapse. Their music feels like it is both falling apart and pulling together at once.
“Star” is a love song that jolts everything around it into motion. Rønnenfelt’s gritty writing feels newly animated over a driving jangle pulse, with twinkling and slashing guitars and sudden handclaps. It asks what kind of love makes you feel like a dying star, where total collapse and an incandescent present collide.
