Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist team up for first single ahead of the release of Alfredo 2

5 years on from their critically acclaimed modern classic, Alfredo, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist have teamed up again for Alfredo 2, led by the single 1995. The Alchemist’s chopped up soul sample is the perfect groundwork for Freddie, as he raps about his ever-eventful life, mixed in with just the right amount of braggadocio. The duo does what they do best, as the tried and true formula seems to work every time. 1995 is definitely a worthy successor to Alfredo’s 1985 and it’s probably a safe bet that Skinny Suge II will live up to the class of Skinny Suge.

The single was dropped alongside a short film shot in Japan and directed by Nick Walker, with a “yakuza noir” theme following the duo living double lives as ramen chefs by day and organised criminals by night. With features from Anderson .Paak, Larry June, and JID, the expectations are sky high for the rapper-producer duo, and I’m sure they’ll deliver.
